For those who may not be aware there is a proposal going before the Wakefield Planning Board for a commercial venture (Kayak Rental Business) on lakefront property on Bonnyman Road. Below is the PLA Board of Directors response to this proposal.

The adult loons have been spending the past several days on and around the nest we have in the lake.  As such, we are asking boaters, fishermen, etc. to stay clear.  PLEASE give them plenty of room.  We have put out signs warning of the area and they look like the picture below:

Per the existing Bylaws of the Association, any changes must be voted on at the annual meeting.  The updates must also be made available for review at least 14 days prior to the annual meeting.  As you are aware, the annual meeting will be July 21, 2018. The updated bylaws are below.  They are in marked form, so it is easy to see what is proposed to be changed.  Please review them and come to the annual meeting should you have any questions or comments.

As a reminder, cyanobacteria is in every fresh water body in the world.  Blooms however happen depending on a multiple of conditions such as temperature, phosphorus levels, rain fall, etc. etc. etc..  The blooms can come quick and then disappear quickly or they can stay around for a while.  As stated above .. just avoid them.

On Saturday, July 1, a single loon chic was hatched to the adult pair that nested on Province Lake during June.  The chic has been growing under the watchful eyes and constant companionship of the adults.

On Thursday evening, July 20, the State certified biologist team from the Loon Preservation Center in Moultonborough will be on our lake to band the adult(s).  You may see a boat with a bright light on it between 8:30 and 10pm.  The LPC has been banding loons for decades and the team has extensive experience in the process.  They assure us that the procedure is safe and will involve as little stress as possible.  Please do not attempt to join the activity.

Sadly, someone stole a 9 hp boat motor and fuel tank from a boat parked at the beach along Rte 153 near Butler Field.  They were locked to the boat and the locks were cut.  A police report was filed.  We thought you should be aware and you should watch your boats etc. and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

Congratulations!!

In an effort to promote invasive weed awareness, PLA Weed Watcher Program Coordinators, Tucker Vye and Carl Davis, “planted” two plastic imitation exotic weeds in the lake and they were found!! Congratulations to Andrew Brown and Ryan Sears for keeping their eyes on the lake! They both received gift certificates to Blue Bay Seafood and Steak Restaurant.

For anyone that frequents this lake, it pays to notice something out of the ordinary. Keep an eye on the water, you could win too! Noticing a weed that is new to an area is vital to the health of our lake. It could save thousands of dollars if a real invasive weed is found or detected in the early stages before spreading.
