NH DES POSTS OFFICIAL CYANOBACTERIA WARNING

As communicated yesterday, the PLA observed some pretty significant cyanobacteria blooms in several spots around the lake. The PLA took samples of those and brought them to UNH for analysis. The PLA also decided to post the red warning signs to give folks a “heads up”. NH DES came to the lake today (Thursday 7/25/19) and took samples as well. Based on the samples analyzed at UNH and at DES, the State has issued an official warning as can be read by clicking here.

Cyanobacteria Warning Posted

Unfortunately our recent weather has been very conducive for the growth of cyanobacteria. There have been several blooms (green floating scummy mats) around the lake today. In an abundance of caution, we will be posting the red NHDES Advisory signs. Samples have been taken and will be analyzed to see if the cyanobacteria has any toxicity. In the meantime, we would recommend that children and pets be kept out of the water and if anyone comes in contact with the bloom, they should rinse off in fresh water.
We will inform you of the NHDES results as soon as they are available.
Several photos are attached.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BEACH CLEAN UP AND MORE.

Even though we have weeks left of this beautiful summer to enjoy the end of summer will be here before we know it.
Now is the time to save the dates of two great volunteer projects which will make the drive along the beach more scenic AND reduce pollution caused by runoff.
The Fifth Annual Province Lake Beach Cleanup
Saturday, August 25th, starting at 9 am

If you have an hour or so you can join your lake neighbors and help cleanup the beach area. Meet us near the  entrance to the Donville Campground on Rt 153. Gloves and bags will be provided.

The AWWA Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is looking for volunteers to help extend their erosion control project on the Rt 153 beach August 13-16th, 9:30 – 2:00
If you enjoy planting this is the project for you. The YCC crew will be planting 100-150 ft of buffer along the beach.
Stay as long as you can or as little as you can, extra hands would be appreciated. Bring gardening tools and  gloves.
For further information contact Amy Arsenault at amy.arsenault@awwatersheds.org

Just a reminder, please do not park on the beach side of the road as this has a negative impact on the lake.

As always, thank you for your ongoing interest in and support of the health of Province Lake.
